World Palm Oil Imports to Increase Sizably in April/Sept 2017...
A clear-cut uptrend in world imports of 8 vegetable
oils will be required in April/Sept to prevent a further
decline in stocks in the importing countries...
From April 2016 until March 2017 there will be a
substantial global production deficit of 8 vegetable oils,
according to our current forecast, which is likely to
enforce an unprecedented decline in world stocks of 8

8 major vegetable oils: Soya oil and palm oil prices declined sharply during the past four weeks...
8 major vegetable oils: Soya oil and palm oil prices declined sharply during the past four weeks. However, the magnitude of the decline is not yet supported by the fundamental factors. In Jan/March 2017 world production of vegetable oils will still be below consumption. According to our latest estimate the production deficit is likely to be 1.7 Mn T this quarter for the 8 vegetable oils. This is likely to result in a further pronounced decline in world stocks until end-March 2017 by ...

Further Increase of Global Cottonseed Production
Shaping Up in 2017/18...
A reversal is in prospect next season as a
firming of prices and relatively high yields achieved in
many countries in 2016/17 have raised the appeal of
cotton for producers.
A pronounced recovery of
plantings is anticipated in India and even in China the
steep reduction of the cotton area registered in the past
five years is likely to be reversed...

Sharp Increase in Brazilian Soybean Exports in 2017...
For Jan/Aug 2017 we estimate world soybean exports to rise by 5.6 Mn T, contrasting with a
moderate decline of 0.8 Mn T from a year earlier in Sept/Dec 2016. The tightness in South
American supplies and the resulting significant reduction of South American soybean
exports by 6.4 Mn T could not be offset by higher shipments from the USA, Canada and

Argentine Sunseed Crop Falling Below Potential But Still Recovering Pronouncedly in 2017...
On the back of a sizable growth in plantings Argentine sunflowerseed production is expected to reach a five-year high of 3.4 Mn T in 2017, up 0.6 Mn from a year earlier. We understand that Argentine farmers have been rather active sellers of their new-crop sunflowerseed to the processing industry in recent weeks and months. At the same time, sunflowerseed sales for export stayed considerably behind the year-earlier level. See our updated supply and demand estimates in the WEEKLY of Febr 3 where we also shed light on prospects of this year’s sunflowerseed plantings and crops in Ukraine and Russia.

Little Supply Relief Anticipated for EU Rapeseed in July/June 2017/18...
Lower than expected plantings, partly unfavourable weather and early germination as well as disease pressure will limit the potential for a recovery in rapeseed production in the EU-28 in 2017. At the moment we forecast EU rapeseed output at around 21.5 Mn T compared with the low of 20.15 Mn T last year and the record 24.3 Mn T in 2014. On top of that, it is quite likely that EU rapeseed stocks at the end of this season will be critically low. However, it is still possible that rapeseed prices in the EU-28 will be affected by declining prices of palm oil and soya oil from April or May onward.

A Vegetable Oil Tightness Has a Long Tail...
Vegetable oil prices are still well supported by the
current low world stocks and the seasonally low production.
The severe production deficit in Oct/Sept 2015/16
resulted in an extremely large decline in world stocks of
8 vegetable oils by 5.4 Mn T to only 23.3 Mn T as of
We now estimate that in Oct/March 2016/17 the
year-on-year increase in world production of 8 veg oils
by 3.5 Mn T will be more than offset by the low stocks
at the start of that period...
