  • Palm oil has improved its competitiveness vis-à-vis soya oil on the world market, which will soon be reflected in a pick-up in world trade volumes.

  • Exports of agricultural products through the Black Sea have sharply declined lately, due to increased fighting and even attacks on commercial vessels and port infrastructure, affecting exports of wheat, oilseeds, vegetable oils and oilmeals from both Ukraine and Russia.

  • In India, oilseed plantings have accelerated in the second half of July, but they are still running behind schedule, and cumulative rainfall is still below normal.

  • In Russia weather conditions were generally favourable during July and some observers have further increased their sunflowerseed production estimate.

  • EU net imports and apparent consumption of oilmeals declined sizably so far this year.

  • China has so far purchased 4-5 Mn T of US soybeans for shipment from Sept 1 onward compared with nil at the same time last year, with details given in the FLASH.

  • We have made additional upward revisions in our soybean crush estimates for Brazil and Argentina, following new reports about ongoing large exports of soya oil and meal.

  • In several US soybean and corn producing areas of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and Minnesota considerable rainfall deficits during July 1-25 have raised the need for favourable rainfall in the next 2-4 weeks. Whether the rains arrive or fail is going to become an important price-determining factor.

  • Prices of rapeseed as well as of rapeseed oil and meal increased pronouncedly in Europe during the past 2-3 weeks, partly due to lower than expected yields of this year’s crop in some key producing areas, with details in the FLASH.

  • China has boosted imports of oilmeals by 1.2 Mn T or 30% in Jan/June 2026.

  • Sharp increase in rapeseed prices in Europe due to lower than expected production and relatively small imports.

  • Prices of rapeseed oil increased even more sharply in Rotterdam by US-$ 190-200 or 14-15% in the two weeks to July 23, now commanding even a premium over sunflower oil.

  • Soybean crushings of the USA, Brazil and Argentina increased by a combined 2.6 Mn T from a year earlier in April/June, driven by rising soya oil demand, as we explain in the FLASH.

  • The big challenge this year is to find a home for the sharply increasing supplies of soya meal.

  • Exports of groundnuts of 6 major countries increased pronouncedly by 13% to a record 2.1 Mn T in Oct/May 2025/26.

  • European prices of rapeseed, oil and meal appreciated contra-seasonally during the past two weeks, with details in the FLASH.

  • In India, the shortage of domestic soybeans has resulted in tightening soya meal supplies and booming soybean imports, while exports of soya meal were decimated.
