● World production of cottonseed is seen declining by 1.5 Mn T in 2026/27, following unusually high yields in the preceding season. US cottonseed crush falling to multi-year low.

● Russian sunflower oil exports declined to India but increased sizeably to Iran in recent months.

●  Indian soya meal exports plunged by more than 60% in Jan/Aug 2026. In contrast, fish meal exports were boosted in response to extremely high world market prices.

● South African farmers intend to plant record sunseed area but there is concern that dryness from El Niño will affect yields.

● Biodiesel production and exports increased sharply in South Korea in the past 12 months, raising consumption of veg oils and animal fats.

● Combined sunflower oil exports from Russia and Ukraine set to decline to an 11-year low in Sept/Dec, only partly offset by increases in the rest of the world. 

 

● Soybean disposals of 7 exporting countries declined by 1.1 Mn T in July/Sept 2026, following an increase of 11.3 Mn T to 271.9 Mn T in Oct/June 2025/26.

● Peruvian government confirmed worst fears, keeping fishing closed instead of setting a catch quota for Nov/Jan 2026/27. 

● Argentine exports of soya meal exceeded the year-ago level for the sixth consecutive month in Sept, further reducing stocks at crush plants.

● Abundant domestic supplies reduced Chinese imports of meat to a 7-year low in Sept.

●  Disrupted trade flows of sunflower oil are leading to shift in Indian import demand. Combined imports of palm oil and soya oil may increase by 0.6-0.7 Mn T on the year this quarter.

● US soya oil consumption increased steeply to a record 4.96 Mn T in May/Aug 2026. The growth in usage for biofuel production was partly offset by a decline in usage for food, feed, etc. 

● Soaring biofuel margins and increasing feedstock requirements have lifted world exports of tallow & greases to a new high in Apr/Sept 2025/26. 

● Palm oil exports from Central & S. America were boosted by 39% in Jan/Aug 2026, mainly to India.

Declining Ukrainian exports of grains, sunseed and products contrasted recently with large exports of rapeseed, oil & meal, mainly to the EU.

●  Sunseed crushings and product exports from Ukraine & Russia will significantly trail requirements of importers as long as major shipping routes are disrupted.

● Imports and consumption of veg. oils increased sharply in North Africa in 2025/26, mainly in Egypt.

● EU-27 crushings of rapeseed reached a new high of 26.3 Mn T (up 1.2 Mn T) and of sunseed 8.0 Mn T in July/June 2025/26 (+0.2 Mn T).

●  Canadian biodiesel output reached a record 0.9 Mn T in Jan/July 2026, boosting usage of canola oil.
